T5 fluorescent tubes or lamps are one of the most popular fluorescent lighting options today, along with T8 lamps. With a diameter of just 5/8", T5 lamps deliver a lot of light for the energy they consume and have a long lifespan.

When replacing T12 lamps, T8s can use the same sockets, although they require new ballasts. T5 lamps use different sockets and ballasts. Both can be useful. T5 tubes are especially useful in high-bay installations, where their high light output makes a real difference.

T5 tubes are available in different wattages, lengths, color temperatures, and brands, so you can easily find the one your crop needs.

Instructions for use

• Confirm that your luminaire uses a 24W T5 HO ballast and G5 lamp holders.
• With the power off, align the pins in the lamp holders and rotate the tube until it is secure.
• Place the lamp close to the foliage: T5s operate cool and allow for close working distances.
• Raise the luminaire as the plants grow to maintain even light distribution.
• Clean the cold tube with a dry cloth periodically: dust reduces light output.
• Replace the tube when you notice darkening at the ends or a drop in intensity. Fluorescent lamps contain mercury: dispose of them at an authorized recycling point.
