Cucurbita moschata
Approx. 15 seeds
Beautiful variety with great cultural value; we initially obtained this seed through Jemima's mother, one of our partners at Semillas Plantae. Her family is from San Ramón de Alajuela, and on a Sunday trip to the Hermanos Arias sugar mill in Piedades Norte, they were dipping this variety in boiling cane syrup. With an intense orange color inside and great resistance in the open field, this is a crop worthy of preservation, especially suitable for making "miel de ayote" (squash syrup) due to the characteristics of its dry pulp.

Technical Data Sheet
- Variety: Ayote Criollo San Ramón | Type: Open-pollinated squash heirloom seed — local variety from Costa Rica
- Traditional Costa Rican variety with orange, sweet, and intense-flavored pulp
- Well-adapted to tropical and subtropical climates
- Days to maturity: approximately 90–110 days from planting
- Excellent for fresh cooking, soups, and traditional dishes
How to use
- Sow directly 1 inch deep in full sun, when the soil is warm and all risk of frost has passed
- Leave 4–6 ft between plants, in mounds or rows — squash vines spread considerably
- Water deeply and consistently — squash consumes a lot of water
- Harvest when the skin is hard and the stem begins to harden
- Store leftover seeds in a sealed container, in a cool, dry, and dark place
