How many people would love to have their own fresh asparagus available in the garden? It requires patience and a little technique, but it's definitely worth it! It is a herbaceous, perennial plant with branched foliage; the tender shoots that emerge from the ground to become a flower are what we associate with the edible part. The first harvest occurs one year after planting and can be harvested for up to 10 years! Asparagus, in addition to being delicious, is a source of many nutrients and antioxidants, so go ahead and plant them!

planting tips
To ensure the process, it is ideal to start seedlings in nursery bags and let them develop for at least 4-6 months before definitively transplanting them to the cultivation bed. This bed should be kept with good moisture, be deep, have good soil quality, and be constantly fertilized with organic matter to maintain vitality and productivity.
Technical Data Sheet
- Variety: Asparagus (Asparagus) | Type: Open-pollinated perennial vegetable seed
- Long-lived perennial that produces tender spears each year once established
- Requires 2–3 years before first harvest — produces for over 20 years
- Days to transplant readiness: approximately 1 year from sowing
- Grows best in deep, well-drained raised beds with full sun exposure
Instructions for use
- Start seeds indoors 12–14 weeks before last frost in warm, moist seed-starting mix
- Transplant 1-year-old crowns to the garden 12–18 inches apart in rows 4 feet apart
- Water deeply and consistently — asparagus needs uniform moisture during its first 2 seasons
- Do not harvest in years 1–2 — allow all spears to turn into foliage to build root reserves
- Store leftover seeds in a cool, dry, dark place, in a sealed container
