Painted Mountain Corn Seeds

An amazing variety of corn developed in Montana (USA) by Dave Christensen. It took more than 30 years of experimental crosses between more than 70 different native varieties to achieve this beauty. We have been experimenting with and adapting this variety on one of our production farms for 3 years, and only now do we feel comfortable offering it. Contrary to the common corn cultivation practices in the tropics, this variety thrives in the dry season with a drip irrigation system, is dwarf (1.5 meters), and develops very quickly. Excellent for roasting due to its floury texture, and it yields dark-colored tortillas.

Plant several plants in the same space to ensure adequate pollination. Keep in mind that it can easily cross with other nearby corn varieties if they are flowering at the same time.

How to Use

• Sow directly 1–2 inches deep in full sun, after the last frost and when the soil is warm
• Plant in blocks of at least 4 rows for proper wind pollination
• Space plants 12 inches apart, in rows separated by 24–36 inches
• Water consistently — corn consumes a lot of water, especially during male flowering and grain filling
• Store leftover seeds in a sealed container, in a cool, dry, and dark place
